thought of the day: NRA danzation 2006: success or not?
thoughts from me: first off, whatever is gonna be written below is purely for discussion sake. this is my blog; i write what i want to. if you are uncomfortable reading it the big X at the top right corner of this browser is always there for you. simply said: i paid $12 for the performance. sadly the performance was only worth a mere $7 to me. so here i am ranting off the remaining 5 bucks.

the first ever NRA in house production at their very own Ngee Ann Poly. quite a turnout to say the least. i aint good with numbers so i wont be giving a figure for the turnout. however the show left much room for improvements. perhaps more notably is the draggy conversations between the emcees. sadly to say i could have came out of the convention centre at least 30-45 minutes earlier should they have shorten their trash talk. tried bloody hard to impress the audience with corny jokes, but in my opinion backfired on them. dragging the show doesnt make people happy. i would have watched a damn Jacky Wu variety show if i wanted more laughs.

2nd noticeable problem of the performance: too much singing. it says "DANZATION 2006", NOT "talent-quest 2006". i am pretty sure the audience came in expectation of seeing good dance performances. singing + dancing in my opinion is pretty redundant. if you wanna show people that you can do MTV steps, by all means. the singing didnt impress me much.

next on the list would be definitely our very own daphne khoo. i dont know whether is it just me, but the show very much focused on daphne. well seeing her in front in most items doesnt really affect me, since i do recognise her abilities as a good dancer. but having her sing a good 5 songs was a little too much. seriously, stop riding on her name. yes everybody knows her, the ones who dont will definitely do after going for the show tonight anyway. just a tad too much of daphne in one night for me.

lastly would be the flow of motion for the items. i couldnt really catch any themes. couldnt really decipher what they were trying to potray to me in each item. as a layman, all i know is i am seeing alot of repeated stuff. i cant explain whats popping, locking and stuff. but trust me i can recognise them. too much of the same stuff: bad. too much changes in the style for each particular item too.

ultimately i'd rate the performance as 5/10 for a 1st time production by NRA. there were still alot of good points to it. good old Mr James really tickled me abit. dancers were good too, gave their best shot at it. props to that. yes guys, you made us proud, no doubt about it.

i wrote my opinions the way i deemed fit. in fact i wished someone from NRA could see this and spread the word. i aint no pro dancer myself, i just wish to see a better show next year when i go for danzation 2007. i always believe criticism brings room for improvement. and people who accepts criticism are the ones who will go far. danzation 2006: success or not? you decide. =)

had supper after the show and went home. dead tired due to lag of sleep. out.
